"Tis The Season

I want you to do something for me.  Close your eyes and as you listen to the music, picture this... it's December 23rd, 1971.  You've just finished breakfast and you're out the door for that long walk to the High School.

The brisk air finds its way past your scarf that's wrapped so carefully around your neck. And the wind finds a way to blow snow in your face as you walk down Allison Avenue. You enter homeroom, which is decorated with holly around the doorway and cutout snowflakes on the chalkboard.  First period starts but your mind is somewhere else... maybe it's at the Christmas assembly, or maybe it's at Patsy's Pizza, but it's not in class.

Third period starts and the lights in the hall grow dim. As you wait, you hear the faint sound of O Come All Ye Faithful coming from the end of the hall. And as the sound grows louder, you see the Chorus, dressed in their dark blue robes holding a burning candle, as they slowly walk past your classroom, flames flickering in the dimly lit hall.

It's lunch period, and the cafeteria staff have prepared their world famous "Christmas" Pizzaburger. It's well worth the 35 cents. Lunch continues on, with everybody engaging in social pleasantries. The boys play football with their Biology homework,  folded into a triangle, trying to score that last touchdown on the edge of the table before the bell rings, and the girls are talking amongst themselves about.. what else... the boys.

It's now 7th period and Mr. Eklund tries, in vain, to teach you how to conjugate a verb. But it's 3:00 and your mind is focused on the clock ... eager anticipation for the holiday gradually taking control of you. The 3:15 bell rings and it's now official... Christmas vacation is here!!!

I would like to wish you a holiday filled with much laughter, many memories and the love of friends and family that make this time of year special. May you and your family have a peace that will linger long after the season is gone.

MERRY CHRISTMAS
